Computing

A Little School With Big Ideas

Intent:

The national curriculum for computing aims to ensure that all pupils:

• can understand and apply the fundamental principles and concepts of computer science, including abstraction, logic, algorithms and data representation

• can analyse problems in computational terms, and have repeated practical experience of writing computer programmes in order to solve such problems

• can evaluate and apply information technology, including new or unfamiliar technologies, analytically to solve problems

• are responsible, competent, confident and creative users of Information and Communication Technology.

We aim to:

• Provide a relevant and diverse curriculum for ICT and computing for all pupils, meeting the national curriculum

• Use ICT to enhance all other areas of the curriculum

• Respond to developments in technology

• Give pupils the confidence and capability to use technology now and in their later lives

• To understand how to use ICT and computing responsibly and safely.
 

Implementation:

We use teach computing to teach computing in Moggerhanger Primary School. https://teachcomputing.org/. Through this model of teaching, designed by experts and aligned to the national curriculum, we carefully sequence teaching units across our mixed age classes to ensure progressive learning experiences continue to build on prior knowledge and enable pupils to make rapid progress in their computing skills.

We use project evolve https://projectevolve.co.uk/ to support teaching high quality, up to date and relevant E-safety and digital literacy, teaching children to use hardware and software both fluently and safely.
