Numeracy
A Little School With Big Ideas
Numeracy
At Moggerhanger Primary school we believe that maths is a subject that is intrinsic to understanding and changing the world around us. It provides useful tools to be used in a range of subjects across the curriculum. These tools include problem solving skills, logical reasoning and the ability to think in abstract ways. We strive to provide many opportunities for children to practise and apply the skills that they have learned in maths lessons in practical problem-solving situations. Teachers adapt resources from a range of sources to allow children to access areas of mathematics in line with the National Curriculum as well as providing mastery challenges for children to broaden their numeracy skills and develop their problem-solving abilities through application to a practical problem.
During their time in school, children will use a range of resources, following a progression from concrete through to pictorial and abstract, as well as accessing mathematics resources online. All teachers follow a calculation policy to ensure that the teaching of written arithmetic methods are consistent through the school.
