British Values

A Little School With Big Ideas

At Moggerhanger Primary School we nurture our children on their journey through life so they can grow into safe, caring, democratic, responsible and tolerant adults who make a positive difference to British society and to the world.

We encourage our children to be creative, unique, open-minded and independent individuals, respectful of themselves and of others in our school, our local community and the wider world. We take our responsibility to prepare children for life in modern Britain very seriously by ensuring that the fundamental British Values are introduced, discussed and lived out through the ethos, values and expectations of our school.  We ensure everything we do in school reflects this through our curriculum and especially in RE, SMSC and PSHE.  Lessons in these subjects provide excellent opportunities to develop and increase the children’s knowledge and understanding to actively promote British Values into their own lives. At the same time as, challenging misconceptions or extremist views of anyone in our community.

Moggerhanger Primary School is committed to serving the village community and surrounding areas. It recognises the multi-cultural, multi-faith and ever-changing nature of the United Kingdom and therefore those it serves. It also understands the vital role it has in ensuring that groups or individuals within the school are not subjected to intimidation, discrimination or radicalization by those wishing to unduly, or illegally, influence them.

The school follows the policies outlined by its Governing Body regarding equal opportunities, which guarantee that there will be no discrimination against any individual or group, regardless of faith, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, political or financial status, or similar. It seeks to serve all.

The Government emphasises that schools are required to ensure that key ‘British Values’ are taught in all UK schools.

The government set out its definition of British values as being:

  • Democracy

  • The rule of law

  • Individual liberty

  • Mutual respect

  • Tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs

These values underpin the foundation of everything we do, through lessons within the national curriculum and our interaction with one another in the school and wider community.
